Who We Are
The roots of Olivia's Butterfly Blessing’s story began after a tragic accident rendered heartache to countless people. It is a prime example of how God makes good of all things for those who love him although it is hard to see at times.
Andy married Leann bringing with him a son, Austin, whom Leann adored. Soon the couple began trying for a second child and it proved to be much more difficult than anticipated. Leann suffered a miscarriage during this process and was beginning to lose hope when she discovered she was pregnant again! Their baby girl, Olivia Paige Gordon, was born on February 13th, 2012. A miracle baby. With big blue eyes and dirty blonde hair that cascaded in curls, Olivia was the perfect addition to the Gordon family. Being long-awaited, Andy and Leann doted on her with all their time and energy. Her big brother, Austin and her dog, Jyx, were two of Olivia's most favorite to spend time with besides her mommy and her daddy! A petite child, she loved to chase butterflies and declare her claim on most things by naming them “ Olivia”. She had a stuffed monkey which was named “Olivia monkey” and a fish named “Olivia fish” and being very fond of going to church with her mommy, Olivia even called Jesus “ My Jesus”.
Olivia grew to be a very generous little girl. She wanted to share her clothes and toys with those less fortunate and made friends easily, no matter the obstacles she faced with oppositional behavior from others. Andy and Leann took Olivia on many vacations, parks, and events in the summer of 2016. While in the Pittsburgh Zoo parking lot, Andy and Leann, always fans of nice vehicles, admired some of the luxurious sports cards passing by them. They saw Lamborghinis, Porsches and a few other beautiful vehicles. Olivia however, said “ Look daddy there's a Jeep!” Andy and Leann laughed noting her appreciation for Jeep Wranglers. Purple was Olivia's favorite color.
Andy and Leann had no idea of knowing and could never have imagined how important these things would be in the near future. On October 28th 2016, they were on their way to the beach for a last minute vacation before the weather grew cold. Their car was rear-ended by a full size truck which launched them into the SUV in front of them. The truck’s driver did not notice that the traffic was stopped and hit the Gordon's vehicle while traveling more than 80mph. The damage was extensive. For Andy the accident would be followed by a long hospital stay with many reconstructive surgeries. Leann also was transported to a local hospital in very bad condition. Sweet four year old Olivia did not survive the impact. The next year was a blur of horrifying pain for the Gordons. Physical and emotional trauma touched every single part of their lives and changed them forever.
Through the support of family, friends and a very big God, the couple and their son Austin were able to slowly rebuild what had become a new life for them. Within two years after much discussion, Leann and Andy had decided to buy a Jeep and use it in some way to fundraise or assist other charities, bringing remembrance to their daughter's name. Looking to God for some direction, Andy was led to a particular dealership which assisted Leann with building Olivia's Jeep from scratch, each piece hand chosen to fit the love of Olivia. Leann named the Jeep Wrangler “Priceless” after Olivia's favorite song by the band For King & Country. (which Olivia and Leann happened to see in concert shortly before the accident occurred).
Leann reached out to many charities that were fighting the horrors of human sex trafficking, attempting to hold events which she could then pass on the profit dollars to. No one returned her messages. Again, reaching to God for guidance, she waited for the right non-profit to come along. Through a close friend Leann learned of a non-profit called Aly's Monkey Movement which was headed by Kristy Creasy. Aly’s provided stuffed monkeys to children enduring pain (physical or emotional) the monkeys came at no cost to the receiving family and provided needed comfort to the children. The first Jeep run was organized, raising $5,000 for Ally's monkey movement and was greatly appreciated in a year of COVID when other donations were almost non-existent for this charity. Priceless continued to be featured at events that Leann and her Posse organized bringing in much needed funds for other charities such as Twigs and Koleton Cares. Wanting to return to the original idea of the custom Jeep raising money to fight sex trafficking and or specifically assisting youth in turmoil, Leann and Andy decided to create their own nonprofit naming it Olivia's Butterfly Blessings in honor of the little girl often known as an “old soul”. The amazing ability that Olivia had to bring life and light to all those she encountered during her short years on earth is being carried on through this 501c3. Olivia's Butterfly Blessings continues to hold events such as jeep/ car/ motorcycle shows, auctions and even teas held annually for bereaved mothers and grandmothers.
Leann gives God the glory for the birth of this ministry and nonprofit.“ He orchestrated each step” she says. Every day as the Gordon family practices remembrance of their daughter and sister, they pass on Olivia's love in the form of “ Butterfly Blessings” and God occasionally sends a sign reaffirming that Leann is still guided and supported by the God that loves her, you and Olivia Paige Gordon (“My Jesus”).
